Fuller Public Library Trustee Minutes, April 8, 2024

In Attendance: Phil Daley, Samantha Gallo, Norma Hubbard, Helen Cole, Trish Bush, Riché Colcombe, and Melinda Gehris

Minutes from February’s meeting were approved.

Transaction Reports from January and February looked fine. One question about what NHHC was, this was finds from NH Humanities Council, a program we had that they sponsored.

Project LIFT: 3 new enrollments in March. Enrollment continues to increase, Riché asked why? Trish said that there are new move-ins, people looking to complete their HiSET, she is finding that young people are low levels due to schooling lost during COVID, and homeschool status.

Trish is putting more effort in fund raising towards sustainable income. HDSD has agreed on a new contract with LIFT with increased rates, as well as a few new students, not as many as first thought would be enrolled. Due to the lower numbers a teacher will not be hired.

Sam mentioned TD Bank’s Affinity Program as a way to raise funds for the Library and LIFT. She will be enrolling soon. Riché mentioned she thought Bank of NH had a similar program, Sam will inquire there as well.

Library policies reviewed:

Telescope- Sam made a few changes: keeping the lending agreement on file for a year and adding to it when patrons borrow the telescope and updating costs if parts of the telescope were damaged or lost. Approved.

Programs Guide policy- a few small changes in wording. Approved.

Sam asked if the 2 – $2,500 donations needed to be accepted at a public meeting. The understanding of RSA202-A:4-c is that only if the donation was $5,000 from one donor.

Sam brought up concerns about the increase in supervised visitations in the library. Many local libraries are banning them. Melinda suggests a call to NHMA in legal advice. All agreed that the library is not the place for these visits, a staff are not trained if there were an issue. Sam is also concerned that they don’t check in at the desk when they come in, and they don’t ask for items to use (toys) or ask if certain activities are allowed. A suggestion to put up a sign “supervised visits check in at the desk”.

The Board worked on Trish’s 2023 evaluation.
